Recommendation and Application Guidelines for International Exchange Grant Programme 2026
- 1. Purpose of the International Exchange Grant
- This initiative provides grants for international research exchanges in the field of natural sciences, focusing on the prevention and treatment of human diseases. The initiative aims to contribute to the advancement of academic research, and ultimately to enhance human happiness and welfare, however modestly.
- 2. Eligible recipients of grants
- We provide financial assistance for travel and living expenses to researchers and short-term students presenting research or delivering lectures at international conferences, symposia, and other events in the natural sciences concerning the prevention and treatment of human diseases held overseas.
We also provide financial assistance for travel and living expenses to medical students from the Kingdom of Thailand studying and training in Japan. - 3. Grant Amount
- International Conference Attendees: Per case: Up to ¥300,000; Total: Up to ¥3,000,000
Short-term Study Abroad Participants: Per case: Up to ¥1,000,000; Total: Up to ¥3,000,000
Medical Students from the Kingdom of Thailand: Per case: Up to ¥300,000; Total: Up to ¥1,500,000 - 4. Recommenders
- International conference participants: The head of the applicant's university, research institute, hospital or other public or private research organisation (e.g. university president, faculty dean, graduate school director, research institute director or hospital/centre director), as well as members of the Foundation's board of directors or selection committee.
Short-term study abroad participants: Members of the Foundation's board of directors or selection committee.
Medical students from the Kingdom of Thailand: The heads of departments (hosting officers) at their institutions in Japan where they are studying or training, and members of the selection committee, including officers of this Foundation. - 5. Number of recommendations
- Each recommender may submit only one project. Multiple submissions are not permitted. However, applications involving multiple participants in a single project may be accepted.
- 6. Recommendation method

Complete the required details on the designated form and send it to the Foundation.
- 7. Selection and notification

The Foundation's selection committee will make the selection, which will then be confirmed by the board of directors. The Chairperson will notify the applicant of the outcome.

Please note that if your proposal is successful, the grant amount may be adjusted, or you may be asked to make partial revisions to your intended use of the grant. - 8. Application submission period
- From 1 to 30 September 2026 (applications must arrive at the Secretariat by this date).
- 9. Grant payment date:
- Wired following board approval (scheduled for late November).
- 10. Use of grant funds
- Grant funds must be used as specified in the application form. Changes to this use are not permitted in principle. If any changes are necessary, the applicant must notify the Foundation and seek its approval.
- 11. Report
- The outcomes of the international exchange and how the grant was used must be submitted to the Foundation within two months of the end of the exchange. This report will be published in the Foundation's annual report.
