ORGANIC
COTTON

With our wishes in cotton
Kowa has been working on its organic cotton project, which is aimed to blend fashion and ecology, since its launch in 2003 as a forerunner in the industry.
Instead of just pursuing efficiency, such as the progress of science and technology and significant improvement of production efficiency, we seek new values and aim to provide products that are gentle to both people and the earth.
That is a part of the “environmental measures” designed by Kowa Group, thinking of the earth and the future.

For the health of both land and people
Organic cotton is cotton cultivated on a farm that has not used agricultural chemical pesticides and chemical fertilizers for three years or longer, and certified for compliance with international standards on organic agriculture. It also refers to textiles made of the cotton.
Currently, organic cotton is rarely cultivated, accounting for only about 1.4%* of world cotton production. As cotton is not grown for food, large amounts of pesticides have been used in its cultivation. In the farmlands where chemical defoliants were once used, both the lands and people have suffered from heavy burdens.
Having handled cotton for more than a hundred years, we at Kowa hope to promote the health of the lands and the people working there, partly in gratitude for their services, through our initiatives on organic cotton.

Bringing smiles to farming villages
India is one of the largest cotton production country in the world. In the present circumstances, many farmers of India use enormous pesticides and chemical fertilizers, therefore those engaged in cultivation face the health hazards, and there is still concern about the impact on the ecosystem due to the deterioration of the soil environment.
Organic farming is said to be effective in eradicating health hazards caused by pesticides and preserving ecosystems.
By using organic cotton, we hope to improve the health of the soil and to create an environment where people working on the farms can live a healthy and bright life.

Toward continued reliability
Kowa received, in 2003, an international organic cotton certification as the first brand in Japan. Since then, every process of our production has continuously been examined by international certifying agencies for compliance with their standards on organic products. The standards are not for quality inspections. Based on the history of production activities, the third-party certifying agencies visit work sites for various processes and evaluate them in terms of environmental and social aspects.
Firmly maintaining the framework that ensures us to be responsible not only for the quality of the products we manufacture but also for their background, we are committed to continuously providing our customers with reliable products.
